Death of Fidel Castro

As we come towards the end of 2016 and our traditional Christian season of Advent in the run up to Christmas, how appropriate it is that in this year of tremendous political change with both the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump that a year of dramatic not to say Revolutionary change should be topped off with the death of the one remaining emblematical figure of the Marxist Leninist version of internationalism!

I am referring of course to the death of Fidel Castro.

The intellectual and moral chasm between the old and the new can hardly be set out better than the difference between President Barack Hussein Obama’s statement and that of President-elect Donald Trump. Obama’s comment was as follows:-

Statement by the President on the Passing of Fidel Castro

At this time of Fidel Castro’s passing, we extend a hand of friendship to the Cuban people. We know that this moment fills Cubans - in Cuba and in the United States - with powerful emotions, recalling the countless ways in which Fidel Castro altered the course of individual lives, families, and of the Cuban nation. History will record and judge the enormous impact of this singular figure on the people and world around him.

For nearly six decades, the relationship between the United States and Cuba was marked by discord and profound political disagreements. During my presidency, we have worked hard to put the past behind us, pursuing a future in which the relationship between our two countries is defined not by our differences but by the many things that we share as neighbors and friends - bonds of family, culture, commerce, and common humanity. This engagement includes the contributions of Cuban Americans, who have done so much for our country and who care deeply about their loved ones in Cuba.

Today, we offer condolences to Fidel Castro's family, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Cuban people. In the days ahead, they will recall the past and also look to the future. As they do, the Cuban people must know that they have a friend and partner in the United States of America.”

Donald Trump’s statement was reported as follows:- “

Donald Trump Issues Perfect Statement On Death Of Fidel Castro

“Today, the world marks the passing of a brutal dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades,” Trump said in a statement issued a couple of hours after his tweet.

“Fidel Castro’s legacy is one of firing squads, theft, unimaginable suffering, poverty and the denial of fundamental human rights. While Cuba remains a totalitarian island, it is my hope that today marks a move away from the horrors endured for too long, and toward a future in which the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they so richly deserve.”

The President-elect added, “Though the tragedies, deaths and pain caused by Fidel Castro cannot be erased, our administration will do all it can to ensure the Cuban people can finally begin their journey toward prosperity and liberty. I join the many Cuban Americans who supported me so greatly in the presidential campaign, including the Brigade 2506 Veterans Association that endorsed me, with the hope of one day soon seeing a free Cuba.”

For this year we only need the results of the Italian referendum to see whether the current EU puppet Italian Prime Minster Matteo Renzi will fail in ripping the heart out of Italian democracy and also whether Austria will elect the patriotic Mr Norbert Hofer of the Freedom Party of Austria, or the Communist internationalist, Alexander van der Bellen - then our “Year of Wonders” on the international scene will probably be concluded!

  1. The msm are worse than not fit for purpose, they are outright deceitful and obscure the real news and put a political slant on everything.

Anyway Higher has concealed defeat, so perhaps Austria is not yet ready to leave the EU. Give them five years. Hopefully Italy will cause an upset. Sadly the Germanic countries are behind the curve but I am sure that when they do make the move for change it will be seismic and sudden.

Personally I think we will have to rely on France to really break the cultural Marxist occupation of the continent.

  2. Robin, some of us who may be deemed by the Left to be on the "far right" are in two minds about Castro. We look at Cuba before the revolution with its corruption etc and muse on the fact that Cubans have a longer life expectancy that Americans, are probably much better educated and have a first class free health service and sending doctors abroad to help others. The latter two recall this country in the 1950s and 1960s. None of us want to see a return to the Cuba of before 1950 as an American colony. Trump may be out of step with some of his worker electorate on some aspects of this one is concerned. I recall an American saying before the election that 33% of his salary went on taxes and healthcare and he was struggling to make ends meet. I wonder if others share my uncertainty as to which was the better country to live in. Neither is perfect.

  3. I hear what you're saying about Castro, but was his body count anything like General pinochet's or the various Argentine dictators? Indeed surly an irony that he out served them all. I'm afraid President Elect Trump's going back to the default position, might mean the Cubans just look inwards. Thus it will be difficult for any Cuban Gorbachev style reformer that might be there. Granted how exactly will they manage, when their cheap oil is cut off. By a seemingly likely civil war in Venezuela. I appreciate and understand how that'll come about, indeed the irony of this possible scenario

  4. My Guardian reading brother and potential Lib Dem voter told me that he had watched the interview by Sophie Shevardnadze on RT with Marion, the daughter of Marine, Le Pen and found that he agreed with most of what she had to say. I said that Trump is meant to be leading the "far right" anti-establishment revolution but lost me on what he had to say about Cuba.

My brother had been surprised by Mlle Le Pen; but then I watched the start of Sophie's interview last night with Sahra Wagenknecht of the German left-wing party "Dei Linke" and found that she was saying most of the same anti-elite things that Marion Le Pen had been saying. To some extent the "far right" and the Left meet behind the scenes but I think that is more that these "fringe" politicians are just echoing the views of the peoples of their country regarding the takeover by a rich or ideologically driven elite who are totally detached from the ordinary people. The default position for Trump is just that of the Republican party he is meant to represent. But in truth, Trump, an erstwhile Democrat is neither Republican nor Democrat and just as the mainstream parties have fused to remove any democrat choice and dominate the electorates they no longer represent so Trump has fused aspects of the Left and the Right to give the people what they really want. He is not going to abandon Obamacare but going to make it even more affordable for the masses.

  5. It seems to me that "Far Right" is just another Politically Correct write-them-off expression, used against any group or party that expresses legitimate concerns about immigration, alongside "racist" and "xenophobic". It doesn't matter what your core policies are, as soon as you mention immigration, you're "Far Right".
