Scottish independence = the end of the UK = out of the EU!

Although this article  http://www.scotsman.com/news/scottish-independence-fresh-eu-doubts-for-independent-scotland-1-2521359 , in the Scotsman Newspaper, is captioned in a peculiar way, suggesting that Scotland might remain within the EU, in fact the reported comments of the European Commission make it crystal clear that the opposite is the case.
This can be seen more clearly in this item from the BBC  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-19567650
So now it is clear beyond reasonable doubt that, if Scotland does become independent, then Scotland will be out of the EU and that Scotland would have to reapply (if it wanted to).
Such an outcome would be very good for any English Eurosceptic voters (who are not fanatical Unionists!) because the end of the United Kingdom would automatically result in the other "Successor States", like the newly independent England, also being out of the EU!
So in one swoop England would be free of the EU and free of paying our EU membership subs, currently £19.2 billion per year, and also free of paying Barnett Formula etc subsidies to Scotland of £32 billion per year (as calculated by the House of Lords)!
There is one curious wrinkle in the consequences of Scottish independence, which is that the Kingdom of England that would be left independent and as a "Successor State" incorporates Wales this is because the 1536 Act of Union between England and Wales predates the 1707 Union with Scotland!

  1. Alex Salmond has done more to re-awaken a sense of English Identity than any politician since Oliver Cromwell!

    'Lang mae 'is lum reek!'

    And roll on Independence

They've suckled at our teats for the last 300 years. Let them suckle at the EU udder for the next 300!

  3. Solomon will delay the referendum for as long as he can to milk the anti English sentiment that has served him so well. I can't imagine him liking having to explain himself to the Scottish people for raising taxes and opening borders even more.

Scotland of course would be allowed to stay in or re-join the EU - at a price. As one commenter pointed out on the Scotsman website - as a two per cent contributor to the UK subs bill they would not be regarded as an equal partner by the spendthrifts of Brussels. What national assets remained following devolution would be hocked to the private European central banks and austerity would follow, as sure as eggs are eggs. If that didn't go down too well, then the EU would replace Solomon with someone who would do their bidding QED.

I can understand Scots wanting independence , but in this case I wouldn't trust the judgement of Solomon.

  4. Jose Manuel Barroso is wrong. Scotland is not a region, but an equal partner with England in the UK. That does not apply to Northern Ireland or Wales. Scotland joined the EU alongside England (including Northern Ireland and Wales). Scotland is a member of the EU in its own right.

    1. No. The Act of Union 1707 merged the two Kingdoms to make the new "United Kingdom of Great Britain"

  5. This is "black propaganda" from the Better Together campaign headed by Alistair Darling, trying to frighten the Scots with the threat of not being in the EU following a vote in favor of independence, so that they will hold onto Nurse UK, for fear of finding something worse.

  7. I thought that Alex Salmond was the only Scot wanting Scotland to be in the EU. The thought of being out of the EU might spur many Scots into voting for independence. Once upon a time Salmond used to say that Scotland could be like the Irish Republic, another Celtic tiger, free of England but in the EU. Apparently the Republic is in really terrible financial trouble now so I don't think Salmond will talk of the EU and the euro as an option for Scotland at the moment. The comparison of the moment is with Norway, independent, rich in oil and not in the EU or the euro. And if Salmond floods Scotland with as many muslims as Norway then Scotland could be on the brink of civil war as Norway is as well!!

    1. After the 'Celtic tiger ' allusion failed, Salmond championed the Icelandic model - until it failed under the impossible fiat currency escapades of the moneychanges and the corporations. What is interesting though is that since the Icelandic people rejected paying the debts to financial thieves in the city of London, primarily, and re - ordered the banking system to prevent such a thing happening again, Salmond, to my patchy knowledge has not trumpeted the current success that that act of defiance against the banksters has brought to the Icelandic economy. It has grown more than the bailed out economies have grown as they have refused to take on the false debts of the banks.Similarly that success or at least the success in refusing to bail out the bankers has been totally ignored by the mainsteam media.

  8. A lot of wishful thinking here. If the Scots go for independence the EU will change the rules and let them in!There are no scruples in their game! Check what happened with Slovakia before we get too happy!

  9. Slovakia joined the EU after the "Velvet Divorce"!

  10. Yes, God bless little Iceland for refusing to play the bankers' game and getting away with it. I like to think it's those pesky Vikings again. Watch Neil Oliver's series on them and then look at limp-wristed Scandinavia today and it will make you weep.

Few people seem to realise that the bankers have staged a coup as part of their aim to rule the world. I think the sub-prime mortgates in the USA was how they did it, knowing that the people they conned would never be able to manage their repayments, once they were hiked, in a million years.

As previously stated I am predicting that their next move will be to link the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank and then they will have won. By the way the Fed is engaged in a continuous process of quantative easing to keep the American banks afloat. I am not sure how but this is meant to make life even more costly for the average American and presumably increase his debt slave status. In Australia, the super-rich are thriving and the middle and working classes are coalescing as the poor. The plutocracy of the few is now world-wide and they are thriving on the debts of countries and individuals so we should all follow Iceland's lead and break them. By the way, in a small town in Scotland I discovered that local authority cuts have meant the disappearance of their traffic wardens. This is possibly only thing we can thank the robber bankers for.

    1. All the central banks are linked by equitable if not nominal ownership, including the so called 'Bank of England'.

    2. I have just seen a headline about barring rogue bankers. That'll be the lot of them then. By the way if your comment is true then we are already linked to the Chinese banking system via the HSBC presumably.
