No, Mr Salmond, some of it’s ENGLAND’s Oil!!

So far Scotland and the Scottish National Party have had it all their own way claiming that North Sea oil is Scottish.

As a lawyer I can tell Alex Salmond that the normal International Conventions for determining the National Territorial Boundaries of the coastal Seabeds between Nations would suggest that up to half of North Sea oil is within English territorial waters, if you apply the geological test, and a quarter if you apply the average of the national land boundary test.

I therefore call upon the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, Mr Vince Cable, to institute a proper judicial enquiry to establish the boundary without further delay or prevarication.

The English Democrats are the only Party campaigning for English national interests to be properly represented. As part of our campaign, we now call for the respective national ownership of the off-shore territorial seabed, and therefore of the mineral resources, be judicially determined between England and Scotland.

This determination will allow the claims of the Scottish National Party as to Scottish oil to be properly allocated. In the highly probable event of Alex Salmond winning a referendum for independence of Scotland, that there will already be a binding determination at least on this issue out of the many other issues that will need to be resolved between the successor national states after the dissolution of the United Kingdom. This would also be an important step if full fiscal autonomy is to be granted to Scotland, under so called “Devo Max”.

The English Democrats will be organising a demonstration outside the Department of State for Business Innovation and Skills early in the New Year to follow up this call. I would therefore call for volunteers to take part in a demonstration. Would all those interested please email Enquiries@EngDem.org?

  2. I think it would be valuable information to have the result of a Judicial Enquiry into this.

  3. The Leader of the Scots Nats, Alex Salmond is a gambler. He loves horse racing etc. He would gamble on two raindrops running down a window. I have it on good authority that he is gambling on taking the Scottish people out of the UK bringing independence to Scotland, to further his position in the world. Take a look into his background, Does Mother Russia play a part ?. Would you vote for a man who would sell his soul on the turn of a dice.

  4. It takes a lot of teamwork and money to get the oil and gas out of the ground,I have worked offshore England,Scotland and Norway and seen it firsthand. The international borders throw up complications as in the Frigg gas field (now abandoned)where one platform out of the four was in UK,the rest were Norwegian.
It needs sorting out soon as the Barnett Formula is a mill-stone round England's neck and should be dropped.

  5. Interesting theme that the previous GOV did not take into account in their hurry to destroy England. I wonder how far out an Oilfield has to be before it becomes "no-mans land!"

  6. As a historian I have often observed that the history of Scotland is one long dreary sequence of bad luck, ineptitude and poor judgement. It would not surprise me if after Scottish independance, all the "northern" oil gave out and vast new deposits were discovered off Brighton; then they would have to creep back cap in hand ;)
    Bring it on, I say!

  9. It's all very clever the way the elites work. The break down of the U.K. is the simple way, divide and conquer. They can then bring in more draconian laws!! Probably shoot to kill, next!!!

  10. The mere suggestion that even some English were daring to fight back and question this cornerstone of the scotch argument for financial independence will cause literally thousands north of the border to reach for the deep fried mars bars and a side dish of veg (chips).

  11. I'm English but I don't in anyway despise the Scots, in fact I admire their fortitude and love the beautiful country they inhabit. Saying that, it is time for them to decide their own future and hopefully chose independance and not be ruled over by Westminster. We English also need to determine our future and have a parliament for England just as the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish have. All we ask for is an equality within the present UK which is being denied us at the moment by all the 'mainstream political parties'. It's this that fosters resentment!
Change is coming and the present problems within Europe and the wider world only speed up the inevitable.

  14. Everyone seems to accept that it is Scotland's oil, a point which is never challenged either by politicians or the press. And yet there is a very real case to be made for some and perhaps a surprisingly large amount of the southern North Sea being England's.

Up until the last Labour government the division between the English and Scotish areas to North Sea followed as a virtual projection of the boundary between our countries and that, if you look at a map is a diagonal line which projects across the sea north eastwards at a distinct diagonal. One on the last acts of the Labour Government was to adjust the sea border back to a straight line parallel running due east west. The culprits were Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown acting in their unelected roles as overseers of England. Thus about 1/3rd of the North Sea and it's oil was literally stolen from England in the last days of power by the scots acting only in Scotland's interest without any debate or vote in the Westminster Parliament.

  15. I very much hope that the union is kept together. We are stronger together and weaker apart.

  16. If the Scots want independence good luck to them I have no problems with that at all.

However, I do agree that the question of oil (or oil deposits), should be carefully reviewed because, whenever the arguments concerning the Barnett Formula arise and the unfair distribution of payments are questioned, Alex Salmond always responds with his tiresome claim that the oil belongs to Scotland.

I don't believe that Scottish Independence will necessarily come about - there are many Scots who simply don't want it. However, even if it is acheived, then I'm sure it will result in a form of Federated British States with the Queen as head and shared Defence at least.

We can quibble about the oil reserves later but I imagine the Scotts will be most unhappy when the 'handouts' are recovered by the English Exchequor in compensation for the loss of (limited) oil revenues. That seems a fair solution to me - afterall Aberdeen, if not the whole Scottish nation, has done very well out of the oil to-date, no matter who 'owns' it!

I shall stand with any Englishman who is fighting for Democracy and an English Parliament
for the people of England, The current Westminster Parliament is a disgrace and an insult to the English people.

  19. As a couple of the posters here iliustrate, most English people love and value the home countries as their brothers. It is noble and generous, but ignorant. England pays the bills and provides the jobs. Grow up and let them have what they want. Real indepedence. Like my Mother used to say 'Be careful what you wish for..... you might get it.'
A union is only strong if the parts are in concord or under the lash, as we no longer use the lash and lack accord then no union exists.
A few decades without free passes to England and its tax revenues and employment oppurtunities would remind our celtic detractors why England is indeed 'God's first born'.

  24. Truth is we need the oil money, especially now, so lets be honest about it. I hope they vote no!

  25. We don't need the oil money. Once the Scottish burdon has gone all things will be equal. Some of the oil is in our territory anyway.

  26. If this blog is supposed to be about English democracy and an English parliment would efforts not be better spent in striving for that rather than be concerned by what Scotland will or won't do? If Scotland votes to remain part of the union is that the end of the pursuance of an English parliament?

  27. There was a similar "problem "over fishing rights following devolution. If I recall correctly some 1000 sq miles of inshore waters formerly fished , by consent, freely by Scottish boats was reclaimed by English fishing interests. Ownership was determined by extending the land border out to sea. However do not forget the last regime at Westminster also redrew the boudary between the two nations in so far as salmon fishing is concerned and some english/scottish rivers marking the border are now by law policed entirely by Scotland including those parts which are in English territory.

  28. I'm more than happy for the Scottish to vote for independance but they and they alone should pay for all the costs incurred from the break up.In addition, there should be passed in law that under no circumstances can Scotland re-join the Union at a later date and no help/bailout can ever be offered to them, no matter how things may get.

  29. It matters not whether Scotland, or any of the other parts leaves the union. No part will be independent. The whole world is governed by the same people. All these puppet leaders do is read from prepared scripts.

This goes for whether you are China, the US, Russia, Germany or some tiny mud hut community in deepest Africa.

Of course most of you do not see it yet, you have been conditioned not to. Yet they do not keep it a secret, they show you EVERY day who is boss.

Got that Alex Salmond, David Cameron, Merkel, Obama, Sarkosy et al? Of course you have, YOU know it. It is just that there are a lot of privileges that can be enjoyed by being a 'puppet leader' of a part of the whole. It sets you above the dumb masses whose interests you are supposed to serve.
