It is not that long ago that the Conservative Party was, in any case, an organisationally loose body of Conservative and Unionist Associations, the latter part of that title having an important, sectarian, significance in Scotland. But should this current move come about, and the reformed Scottish Conservatives adopt a new title altogether, then some of the outcomes you highlight may also happen. Although you stress the opportunity this would create for the English Democrats in a re-casting of English politics, there is also a threat to our little party. If English Tories are free to imagine themselves as a purely English party, then there is a danger that our EDP clothes will be stolen. As we know, the Conservatives are masters of political rhetoric, so we see much huffing and puffing about the EU, or foreign policy, or local control, or immigration, but, in practice, little difference from Labour (or the Lib-Dems). The problem for the English Democrats is that an English Conservative party converted to the idea of an English Parliament, posing as Euro-sceptic, arguing for local democratic control, and balanced migration (while doing little or nothing about any of these issues) would effectively neutralise the EDP message in a number of core areas. We need to build a stronger policy profile across a wider range of areas, and really push an English national position in an increasingly undemocratic, elite-driven, globalised world, and, in doing so, protect our political space.AlFronthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03309612957773750838noreply@blogger.com
